ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙΑ Πρέβεζα

Feel like a local by taking part in one of the region's festivals.

Panigiria (festivals) are events that usually take place in the countryside for various reasons, such as religious or cultural, or for trade (commercial fairs).

What a festival includes?

Usually, when a parish celebrates its patron saint, a Divine Liturgy is held, followed by a procession of the icon of the Saint or the Virgin Mary. In the church courtyard, near the parish, or in the village square, a festival takes place, which includes food, drink, singing, and dancing.
The dancing and singing last until the morning. Traditional folk songs and traditional dances are the main feature.
The festivals (panigiria) in Epirus and Preveza are numerous and varied. Anyone who visits them can understand their beauty, as they gather a huge crowd: the village residents, tourists, and those who originate from the specific villages. Everyone looks forward to the festivals in the summer, as they are a well-established tradition.
