The process of cutting, pruning, uprooting, transporting, and replanting the 175 centuries-old olive trees from the “Elafaki” area in Preveza has begun.

The trees, which are living pieces of local history and remnants of the Venetian Olive Grove (18th century), will be transported and replanted at the Nikopolis Museum and other locations within the archaeological site.

The area where the trees once stood was expropriated to allow the continuation of the bypass project and the creation of Preveza’s new entrance. It was deemed essential for the trees to continue their remarkable “journey” through time, giving visitors to Nikopolis the chance to admire them and allowing future generations to learn about the region’s history from many years before its Liberation.
